The kids were SOOO excited to jump right into the pool with Grammie and PopPop!

On our first full day in West Palm, we met Angie and her 4 kids (and 1 on the way!) at the zoo. The kids loved playing together and I loved catching up with Angie, as always.

At the end of our zoo time, Emily was running around the fountain holding Rebecca and was tripped, which caused her to throw Rebecca in the air and they both came down hard on the concrete. I was pretty far away and went running, expecting to see a cracked open head and lots of blood. Surprisingly, Emily's arm was just bleeding a little bit and Rebecca appeared fine! Both girls cried and snuggled with each other for a long time, then we decided we should head out. I put Rebecca in the wagon and she immediately fell asleep sitting straight up. I just figured she was sleepy because it was past her naptime, so we went home (she slept the whole way) and I put her to bed. She slept all afternoon, almost 5 hours, before I finally woke her up. When I woke her up, she immediately began vomiting. At this point it finally occurred to me that she was more than just sleepy, she had a head injury!
Emily felt SO AWFUL and kept crying, but we reassured her that it was an honest accident and nobody blamed her. We knew she would never ever purposefully hurt Rebecca! Still, she insisted on coming with my mom and I to the hospital because she didn't want to leave Rebecca's side.
At the hospital, they whisked us right back once they heard that we had a baby with a head injury. We never even sat in the waiting room! They took us right back and examined Rebecca, then determined that due to the nature of the fall and her symptoms, they needed to do a CT scan. They said I could lay on top of her and hold a phone to distract her during the CT scan, so we were wheeled off to try it. Unfortunately, Rebecca just wouldn't stop crying long enough to keep her head as still as it needed to be for the scan, so they said we would have to wait for her to get SOUND asleep. She would need to be so sound asleep that they could wheel her from her room, through the busy ER, to the radiology department, then pick her up and move her to the CT scan and perform the scan, all without waking her! Yeah right!!! I told them that she NEVER would sleep that soundly! So after hours of trying to get her to stay asleep, they gave her Benadryl and knocked her out.

The radiologist covered her face with a pillow case as he wheeled her through the bustling ER.

And she even stayed asleep while we picked her up and put her in the CT scan!

After reading the scans, they determined that she just had a concussion and no skull fracture or brain bleed, so they let us go home. They said to let Rebecca sleep as much as she needed to, which was a TON! She slept most of the day the following couple of days and was very dizzy (couldn't walk straight or very far without falling over!). By Friday, she was pretty much back to herself though.

We enjoyed a GORGEOUS morning on the beach one day, arriving there at 8am! The kids all had such a great time.

The kids all ate TONS of frozen treats by the pool--one of their favorite activities at Grammie's house!

On Friday night I realized that Daniel had had a fever and sore throat for a few days, so I took him to urgent care. His strep test was negative, but the doctor was sure he had strep and put him on amoxicillin. On Saturday morning, he was already feeling much better as we started our drive to Orlando to pick Dave up for the rest of the trip home. It was a fabulous, relaxing, eventful, exhausting visit in Florida!
